WHAT THE HECK IS SEO?!

Many business owners do not know what SEO is or its importance and it could be drastically hindering their business.

In the business ownership world, the website is a key way to reach potential clients and expand your brand. However, simply making a website does not mean clients will be looking at it or filling out your contact forms. There are a lot of websites out there which means a lot of competition. Therefore, the design of the website and how visible you make it will matter. Making your website easily findable on search engines, such as Google, means you either learn SEO yourself or pay someone to manage it for you.

SEO stands for "Search Engine Optimization." It is the practice of optimizing your website and its content to improve its visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) organically, meaning without paying for ads. The goal of SEO is to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to your website. Search engines use algorithms to determine which websites to show in response to a user's search query. SEO involves various strategies and techniques to ensure that your website ranks higher in these search results, making it more likely for users to find and visit your site. Here are some key aspects of SEO:

  1. Keyword Research: Identifying the keywords and phrases that users are likely to search for when looking for products, services, or information related to your business.
  2. On-Page SEO: Optimizing elements directly on your website, such as title tags, meta descriptions, headings, content, and URLs, to align with targeted keywords.
  3. Off-Page SEO: Building backlinks (links from other reputable websites to yours) and enhancing your website's authority and credibility in the eyes of search engines.
  4. Technical SEO: Ensuring your website is properly structured and optimized for search engines to crawl and index your content. This includes site speed, mobile-friendliness, and proper use of HTML tags.
  5. User Experience (UX): Creating a positive experience for visitors by improving website navigation, reducing bounce rates, and providing high-quality content.
  6. Content Creation: Developing valuable and relevant content that addresses the needs and interests of your target audience. This can include blog posts, articles, videos, infographics, and more.
  7. Local SEO: Optimizing your website to appear in local search results, especially if you have a physical location. This involves using tools like Google My Business and ensuring consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone number) information.
  8. Analytics and Monitoring: Using tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to track website traffic, user behavior, and the effectiveness of your SEO efforts.
  9. Search Engine Algorithms: Keeping up with the ever-changing algorithms of     search engines to adjust your strategies and tactics accordingly.

Effective SEO helps your website rank higher in search results, making it more likely that users will click on your link and visit your site. This can lead to increased organic traffic, better user engagement, and higher conversion rates. SEO is a continuous process that requires ongoing monitoring, adaptation, and optimization to stay relevant and competitive in the digital landscape. SEO is important for several reasons and contributes to the success and visibility of your website. In general, it’s going to increase visibility and organic traffic while also establishing a credibility and trust that will push your website higher on the search list. The user will have a better experience searching for you locally and organic search is cost-effective marketing. Knowing SEO will give you a competitive edge to others.
