Join Rational Unicorn Legal Services with patent agent Ricky Lam to learn the basics of patent protection, such as what is considered patentable subject matter, the different types of patents that can be obtained, how much it costs to file an application, and etc. A cursory look at utility patents (including provisional and non-provisional applications), design patents, and plant patents will be presented. After the course, attendees should be able to have meaningful discussions with their patent agent/attorney to determine whether patent protection is the correct path for their products and businesses.

Presenter: Ricky Lam is a registered patent agent with the United States Patent Trademark Office (USPTO), and has prosecuted hundreds of domestic and international patent applications across multiple technologies and in all facets from disclosure to grant, including post-grant proceeds. A sampling of the technologies that he has successfully prosecuted includes circuits and passive components, semiconductor processing and manufacturing, 3D Printing technology, satellite network communication, lasers and optics, mechanical and robotic devices, vehicle fleet route optimization, and waste soil remediation.
