The presenter will discuss the duties of the Plan Administrator and what it means to be a fiduciary under ERISA. We will discuss the duties of an Employer in offering a health plan, different options and best practices to stay compliant and acting in the best interest of the participants. New regulations will be addressed including the No Surprises Act, COVID extensions and Affordable Care Act.

Presenter Bio: Karyn Cortez is a Benefits Advisor with the United States Department of Labor, Employee Benefits Security Administration. She has been with the agency for 10 years, working ERISA compliance involving both private sector health insurance compliance and retirement plan law. She has an MBA from Utah State University and has lived in Western Washington for 10 years now.
